Enviro team trapping project underway

The Enviro team in collaboration with the Auckland Council is helping to restore the Otara Creek Reserve behind Sancta Maria College.

After having planted thousands of trees during winter, the Enviro team is now embarking on a trapping and predation management programme to ensure that native flora and fauna can flourish.

Yesterday the Enviro team went out and placed tracking tunnels to monitor the presence of rats using cashew butter as a lure.

In a month’s time the students will check the tunnels and begin placing traps, with these being checked on a regular basis.

We hope that in years to come you will be able to hear the sounds from an abundance of native birds, such as the tui, from the newly built St Luke’s Church.

If you would like to know more about the project please contact the College.
