Kelly Mascarenhas has won the local zone Lions Young Ambassador Leadership Award ‘Lions Opportunities for Youth’ initiative, sponsored by Lions Papatoetoe, at the Bucklands Beach Lions Club. Kelly won $1000 and will now go on to participate in the District final later in the year. Her prize money will be put towards her on-going education.
Kelly says, “The experience was unforgettable and through it, I have not only sharpened my skills and raised awareness on child abuse, but I have become enlightened on global issues and opened my eyes to possible solutions. I sincerely thank the Bucklands Beach Lions Club for hosting the event and bringing together ten like-minded individuals from across the region.”
An afternoon of interviews followed by an evening full of captivating speakers, the Lions Young Ambassadors Awards raises awareness of compelling and thought-provoking issues such as poverty, world hunger, environment sustainability and child abuse. Each competitor approached their topics with striking originality and highly impressed both the judges and the audience. The speakers addressed their future plans and community involvement for their interviews which was a critical aspect of the competition.
