Let’s eradicate the Moth Plant

This year Sancta Maria College’s environment team has entered the Auckland Council competition to collect moth plants. Moth plants are a vine that grows up to 6m. The flowers grow in creamy white to pink clusters then are followed by large, light green oval pods.

The moth plant can out compete and replace native plants and smothers whatever it climbs on. This is why they are a problem. Though the students started later than other schools, the group successfully managed to collect over 943 moth plants and have sent in their entry, with fingers crossed hoping to win a prize in the competition. 1st place gets $1000, 2nd place $500, 3rd place $300 and 4th place $100, along with some spot prizes up for grabs.
