11PES skateboarding masterclass

Cesar Garcia Soto

As part of our Year 11 PE Studies curriculum learning, we had the opportunity to try something different by going skateboarding at Barry Curtis Park on the 18 August 2026, with Mrs. Samaeli and Mr. James.

When we arrived, we had a quick introduction with the two instructors before getting our helmets and skateboards provided for us. We started on the basketball court, where we practiced the basics of skateboarding, including skating forwards, switching our feet and turning in circles on the spot in one motion, either to the left or right.

Once confident with the basics, we then had a relay where we skated across the basketball court, touch the line, skate back and high-five the next person so they could go. This was a fun way to practice our balance and control while also making things a little competitive.

Once everyone was confident on their skateboard, we moved over to the skatepark. We were split into two groups and went to different small ramps, where we practiced going down them a few times. Once perfected, some people went down the small and medium-sized ramps and the quarter pipe, while one of the instructors even went down the biggest quarter pipe and showed us some cool tricks.

Overall, I found the experience really enjoyable. It was also fun getting to try something different with the class and seeing everyone have a go. It was really memorable PE Studies activity and a good opportunity for the class to try something new.
