1st XV concede late tries

Well the weather held out on Saturday for the clash between our 1st XV and Sacred Heart played at Sancta Maria College. Player numbers were down due to injuries and illness but the boys gave it their best shot at reversing the previous result which went in Sacred Heart’s favour.

Sancta Maria received the ball from kick off and for large parts of the 1st half retained possession. However, Sacred Heart were able to capitalise on a couple of errors and turnovers to lead at the halftime break 19-0. The boys regrouped at the break and started the 2nd half in good fashion with Visesio Tangifua putting on some dazzling footwork to score our only try, which was converted by Joshua McCarthy.

Sacred Heart were clearly given the message at the break to keep the ball in hand and spread it wide away from our forwards who had the upper hand for a lot of the game. This tactic resulted in Sacred Heart scoring a number of tries late in the game to secure the win 45-7.

The game was played in good spirit and there were some good individual efforts from Glenn Fromont and Tom Devonshire with Roman Blackwell taking out the Player of the Day award.
