A helping hand on Motuihe Island

Congratulations to the 5 students and 3 teachers/parents who spent the day on Motuihe Island.

They had volunteered to experience a new way of helping the environment. We were collaborating with other schools to plant native trees. Volunteers were partnered to shovel dirt, dig holes and plant trees around a specific area, where they will grow for the next 100 years.

We also walked in the forest to collect seeds, so that they would be available to be planted by the next group of volunteers.

Everyone had fun on the island, and happily set off back to Half Moon Bay.

It was a great experience learning about the environment and how we should replant areas with native trees to benefit flora and fauna alike.
