The first two weeks of Term 4 saw Sancta Maria College being given the privilege of looking after eleven baby chickens. The school was gifted these baby chickens by the Living Eggs Ready Hatch programme which provides schools with “all you need to successfully hatch chickens in your classroom.”

The culmination of the year’s work was set out for all to see as the Level 1 and 2 boards were displayed in the art rooms. The parents, students and teachers who took the opportunity to view could certainly see what a talented group of students we have in Years 11 and 12.

Celebrating our many cultures – Filipino

During the Spanish period, Western European ways of life spread throughout the Islands. Along with them came European dances such as the waltz, fandango, mazurka, polka, and the jota. The Filipinos welcomed these dances and, by adding native flare and style, made them their own. Named in the honor of the heroine in Dr. Jose Rizal’s novel, Noli me Tangere, the Maria Clara Suite captures the elegance and charm of the mestiza Filipina as well as the gallantry and boldness of the mestizo Filipino. Courtship, love, and flirtation are all evident in this suite of romantic dances.

Whakapiki Ake Project

The WAP team from Auckland University visited our College today, meeting with 11 of our students who may be thinking of a career in health and ideally interested in taking Applied Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Maths and English. The presentation focused on academic pathways to a career in health.

Inspiring the next generation

19 primary school students from both the Sancta Maria and Our Lady Star of the Sea primary schools were welcomed at the College yesterday by representatives from the 2018 Kids Lit Quiz teams. The goal of the afternoon was to introduce the primary students to Kids Lit Quiz to prepare them for next year, when they will have the chance to represent Sancta Maria College at the regional competition.
