As soon as we could open the envelope with the first question in it, the stadium was filled with the noise of people running and talking. We could feel the ground shaking with a large number of runners sprinting with the answers.

Although some of our teams are still playing in local competitions and vying for the knockout rounds of their respective Winter Tournaments, most of our teams have now finished playing for 2018. Here are some honourable mentions and a snap shot of where other teams placed.

It was medals all the way for our jazz combos and Big Band when they participated in the Auckland Jazz and Blues Club Secondary School competition.

By their interesting facial reaction Petar Buzak and Liam Somerfield show just what they think when their taste buds have been confused.

Twenty-one musicians from our Primo Orchestra, Light Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra were able to be part of the APO ‘Play in the South’, at the Vodafone Events Centre on 19 August. Many of these students have only started an instrument this year and found this a real challenge.

The Year 7 and 8 students enjoyed the performance by the Revolution Tour. They spread their message to us through dance, singing and comedic life experiences. Their message was about bullying and how to deal with it. Revolution stands up for the people who can’t stand up for themselves.

Joseph George (Year 9) and Nadine De Guzman (Year 10) talked their way to success in the annual Sancta Maria College speech competition. Joseph told us about “Why you should not friend your mum on Facebook’. Teenagers use a lot of social media and his audience definitely related to his humourous delivery of this topic.

The auditorium was buzzing as students from Auckland South, North, East and West set up their stalls full of enticing goods and tempting treats. Around 100 different products were available to the discerning shopper at the Sancta Maria College Night Market.

An annual event our music ensembles look forward to every year is when St Mary’s and Holy Trinity hosts the annual KBB Festival which showcases each school’s talent in music. Sancta Maria College’s Chamber Orchestra, Big Band and Concert Band were lucky enough to take part in this event.

The College open grade boys basketball team have had a good season so far. Competing in the Open A Grade (Central/East) for the first time (highest grade available to our school) they finished top of pool play (undefeated) with big wins over Dilworth, Sacred Heart and Botany Downs. The team also finished the season as Runner Up in Central/East to qualify for the Auckland Championships played on 15 August.
