Blustery conditions for home game

Despite the strong wind blowing down the ground for our 1st XV game vs Mt Albert Grammar the boys put in a great effort with good ball control considering the conditions. MAGS chose to play with the wind in the first half which meant we were pinned in our own half for most of the half. The defensive effort in the first 35 mins was outstanding but despite this MAGS went into the halftime break with a lead of 20 points to nil.

The coaches encouraged the boys at halftime to keep working hard, as with the wind it would be our turn in the second half to have the better conditions. The second half started well with Daniel Harrington crashing over a try and it was duly converted by Joshua McCarthy. The team gained confidence from this and spent periods of play in the attacking territory of MAGs but unfortunately couldn’t convert this in to points.

MAGS scored another couple of breakaway tries to see the game with the score at 30-7 in MAGS favour. Our grade is very competitive and on the day any team can beat the other. Glen Fromont, Traydyn Rameka and Joshua McCarthy were acknowledged after the game by the coaches for their effort but it was our flanker Visesio Tangifua (pictured above) who took out the Player of the Day award.
