Daring performance by Yr 8 boys footballers

A brave and determined effort was put in by the Year 8 football boys who battled it out against a lot bigger rivals at the South Eastern Zone Tournament.

Throughout the day, Seamus O’Rourke and Ryan Clifford shared time goalkeeping and saved some very good attempts by their opponents, while the whole team played their part in defence and midfield. Milan Taylor was also a standout, holding his position out wide on the wing and carrying the ball well as a utility forward and back.

Harrison Edwards also worked diligently in every game and despite the big size difference between him and his opponents, he showed character and courage to face the challenge and was constantly looking for opportunities, fighting for the ball. His teammate Reuben Cooper made ground with superb passes through the centre.

The boys did exceptionally well considering they had no subs and had to play every game. They ended up with a draw against St Kents and a victory against Elim in which O’Rourke and Jeremy Dreyer scored goals.

Overall the Year 8 boys did a great job and never gave up competing.
