Do you know how much Vitamin C is in your orange juice?

Most people don’t think about how much Vitamin C is in their orange juice. We take the manufacturers claim at face value, but the Year 13 Chemistry classes are doing a little more investigating.

The Level 3 Quantitative Analysis internal involves an in-depth look at just how much Vitamin C is in orange juice, using chemicals like Iodine and Sulfuric Acid and a precise measuring method called titration to get the results.

It seems to take forever before the solutions show the expected result, and the constant mantra of “Is this the right colour?” can be heard around the class. Nevertheless, this is an internal based around precision, and just one drop too many can throw off the entire process.

It has definitely been a lesson in patience for the two classes, and in dedication – many study periods have been used up in order to complete the experiment on schedule. Regardless, when our final results and calculations come through at the beginning of Term 2, it will be interesting to see what the class has discovered.
