Year 7 girls compete in Interzone Orienteering

The Year 7 girls Orienteering team, accompanied by Mr Hunn attended the Auckland Interzone Orienteering Competition recently and finished 10th in their category with some awesome individual results.

The girls competed against 30 other schools in Auckland which included Baradene, St Cuthberts, Farm Cove and Remuera Intermediate. The team, made up of Alicia McGivern, Leilani Davies, Amelia Davies, Isabella Ibbetson, Olivia King and Holly McCarthy, put in an outstanding effort and completed the six courses in less than 2 hours with an overall time of 1 hour 48 minutes and 29 seconds.

Alicia led the team and finished the 1st course with a time of 25 minutes and 11 seconds; Leilani finished the 2nd course with a time of 27 minutes 32 seconds and Amelia finished the 3rd course in 27 minutes and 52 seconds. Isabella followed with a time of 27 minutes and 54 seconds, Olivia finished the 5th course with a time of 32 minutes and 16 seconds and Holly finished her course in 32 minutes and 24 seconds.

It was an exceptional result for the team who competed together for only the second time. And if their recent achievements are anything to go by, then we’re sure to hear more sensational news from the girls who, despite not having a lot of experience, have the right attitude and put in the hard work that will see them succeed.
