Empowering Young Maori Women

An inspiring and uplifting gathering of young Maori girls, committee members, volunteers and Police mentors gathered for an afternoon tea as apart of the Te Te Huringa o Te Tai Nga Wahine programme.

The programme for Maori girls in Otara has been supported by Her Excellency Governor General Dame Patsy for the last three years and was hosted at the Government House for the very first time last week. One of our Year 12 students, Alchimae Prasad, represented the school at this prestigious event, and took part in the various discussions where young Wahine shared their dreams for the future of Maori women in society. The significance of the event resonated with Alchimae, who expressed, “when you feel empowered, you are able to empower the people around you too.”
