On Friday, 22 May 2026, a small group of students from Sancta Maria College participated in the Ethics Olympiad. The Ethics Olympiad is an online competition where young philosophers from schools across Aotearoa gather to engage in philosophical discussions and challenge ethical dilemmas.
Teams are presented with eight cases, covering topics such as social responsibility and personal duty across various scenarios: economics, biology, entertainment, and so on. Schools are paired where an adjudicator judges each school based on sportsmanship, participation, critical thinking, and collaborative work ethic.
Our team from Sancta Maria College demonstrated amazing awareness, approaching each case with a holistic perspective and reasoning their perspective eloquently. In recognition of their achievements, they were awarded 6th place out of 15 schools, gaining the “Most Improved Team” and an honourable mention by the judges.
Congratulations to the team on their achievements!
