Fantastic game of Rugby, coaches happy with progress.

With the start of the second round of pool play our Rugby 1st XV came across Sacred Heart College as their oppositon with the game being played on a great day weather wise at SHC. The team were given a game plan by the coaches which was to be strong defensively from the kick-off and kick for territory and attack from there

This week the boys executed the strategy very well with the team making good strong tackles for the majority of the 1st half and were camped in SHC territory for long periods.

SHC opened the scoring with a converted try. Sancta Maria bounced back with our 1st five Joshua McCarthy putting through a well-judged kick for our outside backs to chase and our flying winger Ronnie Teiwaki scored under the posts. The try was converted so the scores were locked up at 7-7. Then just before the break SHC crossed our line again to take a 14-7 lead going into halftime.

The 1st half was a great contest with our team playing probably their best rugby this season. Coaches were very happy at the break and encouraged the boys to continue what was working for the team. The second half was another intense battle with SHC running in another 3 tries but Visesio Tangifua scored a fantastic try from a midfield break and used his dancing feet to cross over for another Sancta Maria try.

Final score 31-14 with SHC taking the win but it was a fantastic game and the coaches were very happy with the progress and effort from the boys. Player of the day was Joshua McCarthy for executing the game plan well and being strong on defence.
