Mandy Hager shares her creative process

Some of Sancta Maria College’s Year 11-13 students were privileged Friday afternoon to hear from Kiwi author Mandy Hager.

Mandy began by speaking about the many books she has written and her creative process. Mandy’s novels cover a broad range of themes, from refugees, to sexism, whales and religious freedom.

She spoke to our students about the magic she sees in writing, particularly being able to empathically connect with her readers. Mandy emphasised the importance of understanding not only the facts of your story, but also every aspect of your characters.

It was a very valuable experience to share in some of Mandy’s knowledge, which will help all the students in the audience improve their writing.
