Mathex Competition keeps Year 7s on the move

Run, run faster. The Maths classes in Y7 competed against each other in the Mathex competition.

As the classes walked to the auditorium, we got seated in our maths teams. We were all lined up in groups of four.

Then 3,2,1 – Go! The runner of each team had to run to their teacher to get the word problem. They had to run back to their group with the problem to try and solve it.
Minutes of reading, solving. It was neck and neck between a few groups near the end.

The teams’ runners raced to their teacher to see if they had got the answer right. If you were lucky, and had worked out the problem correctly you could go to the next question. You had 3 attempts at the problem. If you wanted to win those lollies you had to try and work it out!

Mrs Croxford shouted ‘STOP!’ The auditorium went quiet as a mouse. We found out the winners of each class and they got some lollies and a certificate.

Overall the Mathex competition was really fun and all the classes enjoyed it.
