Meet our Student Leaders 5

In this series of articles, we find out about our student leaders, their background, roles and ambitions. Today we feature our the Waitemata House Prefects, Josh Benito and Isabella Foliaki.

As of the end of last year, Josh Benito and Isabella Foliaki were chosen to become the Waitemata House Prefects for 2019.

In past years, Waitemata House Prefects have led Waitemata to victory to become house champions. Most recently they won the house cup in 2015.

Josh and Isabella both joined Sancta Maria College as Years 7s. They are not only trying to win the House Cup this year but to bring back the Waitemata House spirit.

Josh believes that in recent years the Waitemata House spirit has been absent. Isabella wants to create a system for future House Prefects that will help them to build and maintain a high team spirit in Waitemata.

This year Josh is taking accounting, business studies, classics, digital technologies and statistics. He is also a member of the Young Vinnies and the has joined the 40 Hour Famine committee.

Josh’s goal for this year is to get good grades in his subjects. On top of that, Josh wants to lead Waitemata to victory this year, get the house trophy and make Waitemata house champions for 2019. When Josh moves on to tertiary education he wants to study to become an accountant.

Isabella is this year taking P.E. studies, biology, drama, English and chemistry, striving to get 100% in all subjects. This will help her to get a high enough GPA (grade point average) of 3.5 to 4.0, to enable her to apply to Medical School.

To conclude, in Josh’s own words, “To be a house captain, you don’t have to be loud and out there, you can be reserved and still be a good house captain.”
