Presentation to James Karl

Of the thousands of students who attempted the ICAS spelling test, James Karl was one of 10 students in New Zealand to be awarded a medal for his outstanding performance in this division and one of two to achieve the highest score in the Spelling ICAS in the Year 8 age group in 2018.

The assessments are at a very high level and challenge students to apply and showcase their knowledge and understanding of concepts learnt at school.

The University of New South Wales in Sydney has been conducting ICAS assessments for over 30 years and now attracts around 1.5 million student entries annually from Australia, the Asia Pacific region and 20 counties globally. The ICAS Assessments series is designed to assess the ability to apply classroom learning in new contexts, using higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills.

Sancta Maria College is very proud that one of our students has been presented with an ICAS medal for being one of the top achievers in the spelling division.
