August is a busy and hectic month of music for our Sancta Maria College’s music department, and our annual SUSO competition is just one of the competitions during the month – making its comeback to encourage students from across Auckland to showcase and improve their musical skills on stage. Helping inspire young musicians to get the chance to compete and perform for professional musicians, further receiving helpful feedback and praise. With many performers competing in vocal and band heats, students from Sancta Maria College got to display their musical talents and take-home valuable experiences.
On the 3 August 2026, three of our talented vocalists covered the following songs:
- Ariane Cordeiro: “There is No Greater Love” by Amy Winehouse
- Gianna Cordeiro: “Cry Me a River” by Arthur Hamilton
- Kayla Jones: “I Know Where I’ve Been From” by Hairspray the Musical
The following week, our bands made it to the SUSO band heats with fueled motivation and drive. These bands played a variety of songs from covers to originals.
Ever-so-surprisingly, our rock band ‘Chopstix’ were chosen to play in the semi-finals for the 3rd time. We wish them the best for their upcoming performance!
Overall, we congratulate all these students involved in this competition for their hard work and show-stopping performances. We also give special thanks to teachers and supporters who helped them get onto the stage!
