Senior Choir & Chamber Ensembles visit local retirement home

In our first major musical outing of the year, our Senior Choir (‘Sanctus’) and two of our Chamber Ensembles paid a visit to our near neighbours at the Summerset Retirement Home.

Under the direction of Choirmaster Mr Roberson, Sanctus performed three songs (David Hamilton’s Not Made With Hands, an Ave Maria written by Mr Roberson and a piece from the musical ‘Wicked’), which will be the basis of their repertoire for this year’s Big Sing at the Town Hall.

Our two Chamber ensembles (conducted by Head of Music Mr Gibbs) respectively played ‘Next Time Around’ by Christchurch composer Dorothy Buchanan and Handel’s ‘Lascia chio pianga’ in what were their first public performances in anticipation of them taking part in the NZCT Chamber Music Contest later this year.

Sanctus members Young Nation, who are gearing up for another appearance at Rock Quest, performed a pleasing medley of love songs to finish the show.

The visit was very well received by the residents and Sancta Maria College feels privileged to perform for them and be a part of the local community.
