On Thursday 20 August 2026, all our senior drama classes went to ASB Waterfront Theatre to watch William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The play, directed by Benjamin Kibly-Henson, depicted greed’s effect on one’s morals.
Macbeth tells the story of a Scottish general promised by three witches (depicted as ‘weird children’) that he will take the throne of the king. Overcome with greed and ambition, Macbeth kills the king to claim royalty. He then goes on to kill others to ensure generational royalty and maintain his power. Blinded by authority and power, he is then killed under the pretense he is ‘invincible’
This performance was attended by various schools intending to analyse it for their external, ‘respond to a live performance’. Students were to analyse the use of the acting techniques; body, space, movement, and voice and their effectiveness in displaying the characters’ personalities and relationships.
Some highlights of the performance included the use of lighting and the set as it created an interactive dystopian environment which evoked an emotional response within the audience and set the scene for the play. The actors’ exaggerated movements involved the audience realistically tying in with the Shakespearean theme.
