Students attend APO Concert at Town Hall

Members of our Chamber Orchestra, Light Orchestra, Primo Ensemble, Junior and Senior Choirs visited the Town Hall to hear the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra on Wednesday, May 1. The concert was supported by the Potter Masonic Trust.

The APO Discovery Concert provides an opportunity for secondary school students to have the full orchestral concert experience in a format tailored for them.

The students explored the importance of musical form and structure. What makes an overture an overture? Can an orchestra do verse and chorus? Who’s involved in a concerto? All these, and many more questions, were answered in a 90-minute concert which left our students ‘wowed’.

Pieces by composers such as Mozart, Beethoven and Hans Zimmer were performed with his theme of “He’s a Pirate” from Pirates of the Caribbean, being very well received.
