Tress for Survival programme reminds 9MAC that small actions can have a mighty impact

On Monday the 28 July 2025, our Year 9MAC class from Sancta Maria College proudly participated in the Trees for Survival programme — a nationwide environmental initiative that helps students take real action against climate change. This hands-on event gave us the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the environment while working together as a class and learning more about sustainability.

During the day, we planted an incredible 1,000 native trees at a local site, helping to restore natural habitats, improve biodiversity, and protect waterways from erosion. With muddy hands and determined hearts, each of us contributed to this milestone. What made the day even more special was the support from our sponsors and community volunteers, who worked alongside us, sharing their knowledge, encouragement, and energy.

After a busy morning of planting, we came together to share kai — delicious burgers, juice, and brownies — to refuel, relax, and connect. This time of sharing and laughter brought us closer as a class and reminded us of the power of community.

Not only did we make a physical difference to the land, but we also strengthened our bond as a team.

The Trees for Survival programme reminded us that small actions, like planting a tree, can grow into something much greater. We left the site feeling proud, inspired, and hopeful for a greener future.

Ka pai, 9MAC!
