Volleyball on way up

We had two successful days at the Auckland Championships last week. The boys had a long first day playing 4 games. They had a strong first game against the Aorere College and just went down in a close two set game. They went on to grab one win from their pool over local rivals Ormiston Senior College, placing 4th in our pool.

Progressing on to play Howick on Friday morning the team had another close battle and narrowly lost again in a 3rd set decider. Following this the team had wins against Glenfield and St Peters College which placed them 29th overall and 13th in Division 2. A great first up result for these boys as they are new to the competition. They played without fear and gave 110 percent in every game, regularly throwing themselves around the court.

The girls had a really tight pool in Division 3. They came away with 2 wins out of 3 on Day 1 and placed 2nd in their pool. The pool was so tight as 3 out of 4 teams had 2 wins each and it went down to who had scored the most points from each of the games to decide who went through in the top 2.

The girls had wins against Takapuna 2 and Onewhero and lost to Ormiston, reaching the Division 3 quarter finals where they played against a very strong Otahuhu team, unfortunately going down 2 sets to 0. The girls competed very well and remained positive throughout the match.

Now out of contention for Division 3 the team had a tough battle with Orewa 2, coming through to win 2 sets to 0. This put them in position to play off for 5th and 6th. Coming up against Takapuna 2 in the final match on the Friday the girls had another close game, just losing 2-1 to finish 6th in Division 3 and 38th overall.

The girls were super positive throughout the tournament and stuck together through the tough times, always giving each other advice. The girls, motto kept them focused “go hard or go home” and this showed through with their commitment on the court.
