Whole school sing off raises the roof

With the stage set in the centre of the auditorium and spotlights ready to shine, Sancta Maria College’s first ever whole school Sing-Off was about to start!  Along with the help of hosts Marina Jones and Alexandria Lazatin, this house competition was judged by Mr Bali, Mr Tamayo, Mrs Oliver and Miss Bradley, who eagerly took their places on the stage.

As a newly introduced event in the school’s activities calendar, the purpose of the Sing-Off was to bring each house together through music. After much deliberation, the songs chosen by the Prefects ranged from the iconic “I Want it that Way” by Backstreet Boys to “Let it Go” from Frozen. Between the different rounds, small house-interactive games were played out, including an on-stage dance off and the highlight of the night – teachers round singing “Baby” by Justin Bieber!

All the time and effort put in by the house Prefects, prior to the main event, had paid off – it was amazing to see students singing their hearts out and proudly representing their houses. Yohan Solanga, the Akaroa house Prefect says: “I couldn’t be prouder of Akaroa in all the years I’ve been at school. This is an unforgettable year and one for the history books!”

The Sing-Off established a cherished tradition and we hope the event will be eagerly anticipated by students and passed on to future house Prefects in years to come.  Hokianga was crowned overall champions for 2023.  Thank you to the House Prefects who managed and organized the event for our school.
