This term, our Year 11 and 12 Peer Support Leaders have been focusing on helping our Year 7’s and 8’s build strong friendships and understand communication in relation to peer pressure.
While our senior students are taking advantage of their Thursday late start, our Peer Support Leaders use this time for their Feedback-Feedforward sessions, where they collaborate and plan their next Peer Support session the following day in Year 8’s and Year 7s homerooms. Our Year 11 and Year 12 Peer Support Leaders bond with and support their junior peers acting as older siblings to help them recognize what peer pressure looks like in their daily life both in and out of school, as well as online, and discussing how peer pressure impacts their decisions and their wellbeing.
Through discussion and activities with their Peer Support Leaders, Year 7 and Year 8 students are learning to distinguish between positive peer pressure, encouraging and motivating others, and negative peer pressure, leads to negative actions. And with this knowledge they can navigate, stand up to, and solve situations involving negative peer pressure to cultivate and nurture a community with a deep sense of belonging and where people can be part of the solution and stand up against negative peer pressure, following God’s teachings.
