Year 12s discover lifting others is the route to personal joy

It was the time of year when the Year 12s make the short journey across the road to the Korean Church to spend the day in reflection on their annual retreat. Everyone felt refreshed by the day, having time for individual meditation and together, developing values that lead to God.

This year, we focused on “Lifting Others”, meaning that real joy comes not from material possessions but from people. When we give our hearts in kindness and love, we get the riches of the universe, and the greatest of these is happiness.

The LOGOS leaders led the day, including Tim, who we recognized from the year before. The group divided into their homerooms and did activities reflecting on their well-being and how to relieve our current stresses and worries. We did fun activities such as auctions of values, building structures to hold items, Chinese whispers to draw specific shapes and much more.

During lunch, everyone’s hunger was satisfied as we got our hands on a free pizza lunch. The group spent their free time playing with friends or socialising. To end the day, we were told to pick a spot around the church to lie down and were to reflect on our lives as the music played. It was soothing to relax our thoughts without having to worry about schoolwork.

At the end of the day the students returned to school and were less stressed about term 2. We would like to say a huge thank you to the LOGOS leaders for making our day a lot of fun, and especially the teachers who were there to supervise us.
