On Monday 16 March, our school held their annual Year 7 and 8 swimming sports at the Papakura swimming pools. The students competed in three levels (social, have a go, and competitive freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke). The day started with the Year 8 girls competitive and ended with the Year 7 boys relay teams.
Throughout the day, students tried their best to win points for their houses, competing in as many races as they could as people were cheering and calling out to their friends as the racers/participants were determined and steady.
Congratulations to the following students who won their respective age groups:
- Year 7 Boys: Niko Evdokimov-Reti
- Year 7 Girls: Kyra-Lee Collins
- Year 8 Boys: Edward Pritchard
- Year 8 Girls: Tiffany Chen
Overall House results:
- Akaroa
- Waitematā
- Kororāreka
- Hokianga
On behalf of all the Year 7 and 8s who participated in the swimming sports, we had an amazing experience coming out of our comfort zone and putting 100% of our effort into every race, whether it was having fun in the social races, or aiming high in competitive swimming. We can’t wait until we get to go again, and we look forward to all our new and exciting adventures ahead. Watching, from the side lines cheering everyone on and swimming in the pool, the swimming sports was an enjoyable and memorable event for us all.
Overall, the event successfully brought students together and showcased both talent and teamwork across all houses.
