Year 7s and 8s take to the court

Last Thursday at Cockle Bay Tennis Club, eight of our students represented Sancta Maria College at the South Eastern Zone (SEZ) Junior tennis competition, for Year 7 and 8 students. It was the first competition in three years as the last two tournaments had been rained out.

Oscar Stewart, David Jin, Constanza Lazarte-Simic, Adam Masaryk, Luke McEnteer, Cayleigh-Ann Ngapaku, Layla Ngapaku and Mya Tubu battled it out against Mission Heights, Elim, BBI, Farm Cove, Howick Intermediate, Sommerville Intermediate and Saint Kents.

Throughout the one day tournament, the schools vied for the top position in both singles and doubles competition. Kieran, our school sports co-ordinator, was there to support our team and provide transport.

Following the pool play, Oscar played off for 9th and 10th place in the singles while Adam took out 15th place. The girls singles competition had no finals due to a mistake in the draw, but all our players played well considering some of them were new.

Overall, our team had a great day and enjoyed the experience. We wish them all the best in their future competitions.
