Young scientists show initiative to help those in need

WOW! It has been a busy holiday for some 9BRN and 9GNS students! They’ve been working on their food parcel project that Dr Laux initiated at Sancta Maria College in Term 3, in the Science department.

As part of their Food and digestion unit, the two Year 9 classes have been involved in a community-orientated project where they are required to fundraise goods to make a healthy food parcel. The product needs to meet the nutritional requirements for a family of four. The parcels will be donated to St Vincent de Paul.
In the first weekend of the school holidays, Ethan’s group (9BRN) sold baked items at St Benedict’s and coming to the last weekend of the holiday, Miyuki’s group (9GNS) held a sausage sizzle at Bunnings, Botany. Both groups raised over $100, allowing them to purchase non-perishable items for their food parcels.
Well done all and thank you to parents, teachers, students and the community for supporting this new initiative!
