Youth Week is an annual youth-led event dedicated to celebrating rangatahi across Aotearoa – the ambitious minds and future leaders of our community. This year, on Thursday 21 May 2026, Youth Week was facilitated by the Howick Youth Council, where the theme was “Our voices matter, we deserve to be heard.” To celebrate, a lineup of events, such as making paper stars, hot chocolate, and multisport, were organised for students to get involved!
During late start on Thursday, our Year 7 and 8s learnt how to fold origami paper stars with a positive message embedded inside. Our Year 13s and HYC school led this activity, supporting our younger peers as they immersed themselves in the activity.
During Interval, on the same morning, HYC collaborated with our Kaitiakitanga prefect’s theme for Laudato Si’ to deliver environmentally friendly hot chocolates! Rangatahi were encouraged to bring their own mugs to reduce single-use waste, which were filled with a delicious drink in return.
Finally, on Friday, the Sports prefects hosted a multi-sport round robin in the gym, where there were over 130 sign-ups!
Overall, the overwhelming positive energy within our kura demonstrated that youth are the drivers of change and the future of our community! Thank you to the Howick Youth Council, prefects, and you – the rangatahi – for making this event possible.
