A classic game of two halves

In very difficult and windy conditions the coaches devised a game plan to suit the weather pattern which meant that open running rugby was not the best option. The boys kept the ball close amongst the forwards into the wind in the 1st half for our 1st XV game on Saturday against Tangaroa College.

There were some great pick and go runs by a number of the players particularly Visesio Tangifua, Luis Mimilo, Vettori Forster and our prop Eleazor Temara who scored the 1st try of the game. SMC had most of the possession in the 1st half but strong defence by Tangaroa kept the boys from scoring more points.

Tangaroa capatilised on a couple of our errors to score 2 tries themselves to lead at the break 10-5.

After the halftime break SMC had the use of the strong wind so the strategy was to kick deep and play in the Tangaroa half. Unfortunately, Tangaroa had most of the ball in the second half which meant SMC had to spend a lot of time defending. This along with the tricky conditions on the day sapped the energy of our boys and Tangaroa managed to cross the try line 3 more times to take the win 25-5.
