Alex Dougherty and Emmalee Lynch from 10GNS created the winning ad for this year’s Blue Light Anti-Bullying Campaign. This national competition is organised by Blue Light, a charity with a goal to build positive partnerships between youth and police.
Mrs Sullivan, their English teacher, received an email from Blue Light about the competition and decided it was perfect for the class as it fitted in with their Project Based Learning about Visual Learning. Anti-bullying is also important to the special character of our school and this was an authentic way of creating something which can be beneficial to others.
Alex and Emmalee wanted to show that people are stronger when they stand together – if one person can be brave enough to stand up for what is right, others will follow. Their ad was about a girl who was a bystander to bullying but was too scared to do anything about it in case she was judged.
However, when she finally decided to stand up for the victim, everyone supported her.
They have won $1000 for the school which will be spent on a movie trip for 10GNS to see Fantastic Beasts 2 as well as a pizza lunch, a prize voucher for Alex and Emmalee and new books for our school library.
