As part of the Year 8 Social Studies programme the students have been looking at the traditions of Aotearoa. Nathan Hunt, Luka Ropers, Alanna Santoso, Johann Ang, Jaime Currie and Erin Wahl show the modern Wharenui they made for their assessment.

The tour party caught a Shinkansen ‘bullet’ train bound for Kyoto and two and a bit hours later they arrived at Kyoto Station. As Mrs Havell put it, “It was totally unexpected. Architecturally, it is very grand.” And indeed, it is – modern and ‘grand’ in every sense of the word.

All the students enjoyed the warmth and comfort of their mufti clothes on Wednesday, making sure to layer up due to the cold, rainy Auckland weather.

At the Hiroshima Peace Park spring is still in the air. The strings of paper cranes with messages of peace and prayers from Sancta Maria College students hang colourfully amongst many that have brought over by different groups from around the world.

As well as performing as a member of our Senior Choir, Year 12 soprano Anna Nguyen was part of Harmonique, one of our classical chamber ensembles, who recently performed at Howick’s Uxbridge Centre Classical Music Evening.

Miyuki is just one of the many amazing young people who are making a change in our world today. Her efforts are an inspiration to us all, teaching us that nothing can stop us from helping one another.

After visiting Hiroshima Peace Park it was time for our Japan tour group to make the most of the shops in Hiroshima City to partake in a spot of retail therapy.

The Year 7 Girls Orienteering Team made up of Alicia McGivern, Olivia King, Holly McCarthy, Amelia Davies, Leilani Davies and Isabella Ibbetson ventured to Lloyd Elsmore to compete in the South Eastern Zone Intermediate Orienteering Competition recently.

From the cold of New Zealand’s autumn to the warm welcome of the airplane pilot and staff, to the warmth of Japan’s spring, the Japan Study Tour students of 2018 embarked on a journey that will surely give them a once in a lifetime experience they will never forget.

Last night three of our Year 12 students – Danica Loulie-Wijtenburg, Meggy Laguda and Kelly Mascarenhas – participated in the annual debate held between Sancta Maria College and Botany Downs College.
