In a happy mood we entered the courtyard. The intense heat and flies seemed happy to greet us and seemed to acknowledge that a new snack had arrived. A sign read that Auckland zoo has been running successfully for 96 years and was opened on 22 December, 1922 by the Governor General and the Admiral of the Navy. We passed through the Asia section and assembled by the Red Panda and Otter enclosures. A welcoming speech quickly sorted out the rules and what’s in our best interests when visiting an enclosure. Then, after getting into our groups we quickly marched off in high spirits.

Sancta Maria College student Angelo Matanguihan (3rd from right in front row) represented the Auckland U17 Boys Premier basketball team as they were crowned “Easter Slam” Division 1 Champions by defeating Harbour A 49-43 in an intensely contested final at the North Shore Events Centre over the weekend.

We need your help to accommodate 12 students. 

We will be welcoming and hosting students from Lycée Blaise Pascal, a Catholic, co-ed college in Noumea, New Caledonia for 5 nights from Sunday afternoon May 6th until Friday May 11th 2018. We require 12 families for 4 boys and 8 girls, aged 17 and 18 years.

Last week the girls’ touch team represented the school at Macleans College. Over five touch games held at Macleans, the girls were playing for fifth place.

Auckland’s top secondary school athletes gathered at Mt Smart today under perfect weather for a track and field event. Students Casey Lototau, Zachary Saunders, Erica Lim, Laura Richardson and Abby Noble-Campbell represented Sancta Maria at the Auckland Secondary School Championships 2018. This was a long day for many athletes with some competing in multiple events in a very competitive environment, yet some outstanding results were achieved by our athletes. 

Today the whole school gathered to celebrate our Easter liturgy.
The event began with a beautiful performance of ‘Come to the Altar’ by the College Gospel choir as students entered the auditorium.

Sancta Maria College Enviro Team have an environmentally and economically sustainable solution to propose to the community of Sancta Maria College.

Sancta Maria College has chosen their representative team for the 2018 Readers Cup. The 5 students were chosen last Monday out of the 28 students competing, proving their reading prowess through answering a series of questions based on 3 novels and a poem they had been given to study.

The College Careers Evening will be held on Thursday 5 April from 6.30-8.30pm in the Auditorium. This evening is for all Year 10-13 students and parents/caregivers to
Provide an overview of the courses and industry sectors including the career and study options each can provide.

Last Thursday saw the Year 12 Geography class travel to Waitomo. The students visited the Ruakuri Cave. Here they learnt about the formation of rock structures and navigated the twisting passages of the caves. The students also had their first glimpse of glowworms here, but a closer encounter was soon to come with their visit to the Waitomo Cave.
