In July this year, a group of our Year 11-13 students are going to Samoa, as part of an Outreach field trip where they are given the opportunity to continue building a relationship with Chanel College in Apia, Samoa. Practices have now begun for our enthusiastic chess players. Every Tuesday Week A and Wednesday Week B the Chess Club have their practices. This year we are not going to enter any competitions because many members are beginners, so we are going to wait until next year.
The Junior Star of the week is Marielle Venida. After breaking 2 records (one of which had stood for 8 years) at athletics day, she went on to represent the school at the Counties Manukau competition, where she became the champion in Junior Girls 100 and 200m.

In March the Year 11 Peer Support leaders have made their first visits to their Year 7 homerooms. In teams of about six leaders, each homeroom starts with prayers and the reading of the daily notices before getting started into some fun activities.

Hiking up Mangere Mountain was tiring for the Year 8 classes. We were privileged to see the mountain and one of its craters. Leilani, one of our guides, told us about some of the facts of the mountain and the different types of volcanic rocks that are found there. She also told us a myth. After lunch, we made mini pois and flax bracelets.
