Footballers pay the penalty

The 1st XI Premier football boys played their semi-final last Wednesday against Pukekohe. It was 1st vs 4th which indicated a tough game ahead. We had previously had two hard games against the opposition, losing 3-0 away and drawing 3-3 when we played at home, doing it the hard way by coming back from 3-0 down.

The game was a tight a battle between two even teams with the match at 1-1 after two competitive halves of football. Bring on 20 minutes of extra time. Still nothing could separate the teams as both teams players were starting to feel the effects of the tense situation with several going down with cramp. The intense battle finally coming to a close with the scores level.

Only one way to finish the game now and that is through a penalty shootout. A tough way for both teams to finish an outstanding game as no one deserved to lose. It was a tense and heavily pressured occasion and the boys on both sides were super respectful while the spot kicks were being taken.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get the result this time, losing on penalties. Some key lessons were taken from the game as we prepare for this Wednesday, when we play Rosehill College for 3rd and 4th.
