Inspiring the next generation

19 primary school students from both the Sancta Maria and Our Lady Star of the Sea primary schools were welcomed at the College yesterday by representatives from the 2018 Kids Lit Quiz teams. The goal of the afternoon was to introduce the primary students to Kids Lit Quiz to prepare them for next year, when they will have the chance to represent Sancta Maria College at the regional competition.

We started off with an introduction given by two Year 8 students, Daniel and Alanna, who described the Kids Lit Quiz training sessions and the fun of competition day. It was great to see the primary school students get excited about this way to apply their notable reading experience in a competitive environment.

We then split the group into 4 small teams and ran a quiz in a similar style to the official competition. We even included a visual category, where teams had to identify characters from their illustrations. The winners of the quiz had an impressive 18.5 points out of 25 and were from Sancta Maria Primary. We are very excited to have them join our forces next year. The session concluded with an opportunity to talk to the Kids Lit Quiz team members individually.

Overall, it was a great experience made possible by the hard work of our teacher librarians Mrs O’Rourke (who organised the event and coordinated with the primary teachers) and Mrs Dickson (who prepared the lovely afternoon tea).
