Junior Choir on Stage at the Town Hall

On Wednesday night, SMC’s Junior Choir walked proudly onto the stage to perform with a number of other students at the APPA Festival.

It was a nerve-racking yet exciting experience to be able to perform at the town hall in front of more than a thousand visitors, parents and teachers. Many songs were performed, some with the aid of dancers and many with talented soloists. Our very own Sofia Olan (8BRN) had a solo part in the song Con Te Partiro (Time to say Goodbye), an opera song in Italian.

A number of songs were in foreign languages including French, Italian, Latin and even meaningless nonsense! This provided a challenge for our choir as we had to memorise each and every word. The Junior Choir have worked hard all year long to perfect these pieces and performed marvellously at the concert last night. They have committed to the long rehearsals and learnt so much. For the year 8s in the choir, this will be the last time they participate – for many this is their second year.

The concert was very enjoyable, and it was quite something to be up on that stage at the town hall. The choir certainly did Sancta Maria College proud. Special thanks to Mr Gibbs for putting up with us all year!
