PE students learn new steps

Last Wednesday and Thursday, Year 13 PE Studies students participated in two different activities: Just Dance and Hot Yoga. What is this all about? Read on to find out.

These two different activities were a part of the ‘well-being through the ages’ unit with a central focus on hauora in relation to what members of the public do to keep active. The students’ own experience will be used in their essays when looking at what well-being looks like through the human life cycle.

Just Dance saw the students learning ball room dancing, specifically the Waltz. All students paired up and learnt various dance steps. Students commented, “I had mixed thoughts initially going into ball room dancing. However, it turned out to be quite fun!”

All the students were very surprised when they walked into hot yoga as well. Many students were unaware that hot yoga was actually carried out in a hot room and that they had to be silent, so some found it challenging, “Hot yoga was hard because we had to be silent and some of us weren’t very flexible,” was a typical comment.

A huge thanks goes to Mr Bacon and Mrs Heffernan for all of the work they did for us, as well as both instructors who took the two classes for Just Dance and Hot Yoga.
