Prefects-in-training

Last Thursday saw our 2019 prefect team participating in a range of activities designed to train us for our leadership roles. It was a busy day starting off with a TetraMap personality test facilitated by Mrs. Heffernan.

The students discovered their personal affinities for the 4 elements and how these affected group dynamics. Very quickly the ‘airs’ cool intellect and ‘earths’ confident decision making set them apart from the spontaneous ‘fires’ and calm ‘waters’.

Next up was a very entertaining speech workshop with Mrs. Oliver, who shared some of her knowledge and experiences with us before pushing us to give instructional impromptu speeches on eating Oreos, doing somersaults, and using pen holders.

Before long, it was time to set off for the city where the team was split into 6 groups to tackle escape rooms. Much chaos ensued with smoke pouring into a mine shaft and lasers appearing in a boathouse. However, all teams successfully escaped, albeit some long after the others.

After this fun and engaging experience, further discussion about our personality types was encouraged by a guest speaker from TetraMap. We came to better understand and appreciated the necessity of diversity in our leadership and making space for all kinds of people.

We left the city having bonded as a group and feeling excited for the many opportunities this year will hold. A big thank you must go to both Mrs. Heffernan and Mrs. Oliver who made this amazing day possible.
