Sophia Bebelman and David Locke received their Star of the Week awards from Ms Moore at assembly on Tuesday morning.
Sophie participated in the New Zealand International Biology Olympiad. She did a Stage 1 biology course over summer which is at the same level as first year university. In February, after sitting an exam, Sophia was selected in the top 24 students in New Zealand to attend a practical training camp in the school holidays. Sophie also completed a two-week course (The Rotary National Science and Technology Forum) going to Massey, AUT and Auckland University with 168 top science and technology students from across NZ. She is the first student from Sancta Maria College who has achieved this.
The Junior Star of the Week is David Locke. During the Year 9 Readers Cup competition last week, there was an intense finish as two teams reached the end of the quiz with the same number of points. David gave his team the victory, quickly and correctly answering the tiebreaker question.
