Vaelei has passion for hockey

 

Since Vaelei Young was introduced to the sport of hockey it has become one of her passions. Being put into a junior team for the Howick Pakuranga Hockey Club when in Year 3, Vaelei started developing her performance, skills and sportsmanship. Now as a Year 9 student, she has come very far and ‘looks forward to the coming season, next year’.

As this year’s hockey season has come to an end, one of her highlights was being selected for various representative teams including Auckland Under 15s, Howick Pakuranga U18 Youth as well as turning out for Sancta Maria XI Girls team!

Using her undoubted talent, and commitment to her sport, Vaelei played in a 3-day Hamilton Tournament for Auckland, successfully placing 1st out of 8 in the competition. She also played in the Mary Clinton Cup Tournament in Wanganui with the Sancta Maria XI , ranking 8th out of 16 teams.

This year the accomplished and promising young athlete received a regional award to show that you can accomplish anything with dedication and hard work.
