We have the winners of the Year 7 & 8 speech competition

The Year 7 & 8 speech finals were held on Thursday, with a range of different and interesting topics. Abigail Martis placed 1st in Year 7. She spoke about ‘Why kids should not have homework’. Hyebeen Park came 2nd with a speech about ‘Why we should smile and laugh’. Sarah McCormick and Alexandria Lazatin placed 1st equal in the Year 8 category. Sarah told us why we shouldn’t gossip and Alexandria spoke about equality and fairness in her speech about ‘Racism’.

The speeches were well delivered and deserved their accolades. One student from each homeroom was chosen to represent their class in the finals. All the topics were interesting: ‘How being a Vegan is bad’, ‘Why we should be treated equally’ and more.

They had been preparing and practising their gestures, their voice and their overall speech for days leading up to this competition. These students were the best of the best when it came to speeches – they were persuasive, informative, entertaining and confident. It was great to see all those students – Year 7 and 8 – sharing their passions with us.

The judges commented that selecting from such fine speeches was very difficult and it was hard to decide on the eventual winners. Well done to all our finalists and congratulations to our winners.
