Following on from Monday’s soloists, our group Trinity (Maris Balili, Anna Nguyen and Audrie Mamaradlo) entered the group vocal round of Stand Up Stand Out at the Otara Music and Arts Centre, singing a three-part harmony version of the Bette Midler song, The Rose.

As part of the festivities of Sancta Maria’s annual 40 Hour Famine Appeal, members of the committee organised a sausage sizzle on a cold Thursday lunch time in order to raise not only funds for a worthy cause but raise awareness for one of the biggest humanitarian situations of our time.

Sancta Maria College participated in the annual Auckland Schools Jazz Band competition, held at the Point Chevalier RSA. The competition is organised by the Auckland Jazz and Blues Club, Stephen Morton-Jones and Peter McGregor Music Bass Shop and is open to all schools across Auckland.

This week marks the beginning of Auckland Council’s Stand Up Stand Out competition and Sancta Maria College entered six acts in the solo vocals round.

“Read thousands of books while travel thousands of miles,” is a well-known ancient Chinese motto that is followed by FuLi Middle School in Suzhou City, China. In this week’s assembly, Sancta Maria College was able to elaborately welcome members of the sister school with a very engaging Powhiri performed by the College’s Kapa Haka group.

Students from the Itoshima School in Japan had the opportunity to join a couple of P.E classes from our school and play a fun game of dodge ball.

The year 7 and 8 gymnastic team went to Howick gymnastics club to compete in a competition. All though we were nervous we tried our best. We had three apparatuses, beam, vault, and floor.

Over 500 netball players from 12 schools in East Auckland gathered for the South Eastern Zone Girls and Boys Netball Tournament last Tuesday and showcased their tremendous skill, flair and ability to work as part of a team.

Orla Edwards has been in South Africa representing New Zealand at the Junior World Indoor Netball Series.
The exciting news is her team has won the Gold Medal for the Under 16 girls team 6- a -side competition, defeating Australia in the final.

Over the weekend swimming superstar Trelise Dance represented Sancta Maria College at the Auckland Secondary Schools Swimming Championships. She competed in the older 9-13 yrs age group and did an impeccable job, winning the 50m breaststroke and placing 2nd in the 100m breaststroke, setting two new personal bests.
