Sancta Maria College was narrowly beaten in its attempt to defend the Pompallier Shield won last year from five time winners Sacred heart College. A highlight of the night was Henry Elliot winning the Maori Scripture reading top prize.

This term, the World Vision 40 hour famine Student Committee is inviting the Sancta Maria College community – students, parents, staff and teachers, to once again join them in supporting the “40 Hour Famine One weekend One backpack’ challenge. Christ the King Primary School, St Mary’s Avondale, St Therese Primary School, and Sancta Maria College came together to celebrate Catholic Schools’ Day; approximately 400 students from the primary schools joined 65 students from Sancta Maria College. This joint celebration of the four Catholic schools was made possible by Christ the King Primary School, who kindly hosted this special day.

Let’s get together during this year’s 40 Hour Challenge and make a difference. One way you can help is by purchasing a cupcake during our school’s bake sale. It will be held during lunchtime on Friday. A gold coin donation is all you need to get your hands on a delicious cupcake.
I was lucky enough to be chosen, amongst 15 other students, by Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts, to participate in the ‘Five days in the Art World’ programme. This was such a valuable experience in which to participate.

The Year 13 biology students took a trip to Kelly Tarlton’s to observe the astonishing sea life. While looking in awe at the penguins, stingray and shark feed as well as a whole lot more, the students were able to view each animal’s way of behaviour.
Our students and staff in Japan are currently on Shinkansen bound for Tokyo after two days in Osaka and Shin-Osaka exploring the bustling city centre. Students were introduced to the subway system; working out how to get to their destination with the correct train fare. This is in preparation for their much anticipated group navigation of the Tokyo subway network.
