Nina and Casey excel at inter-zone athletics

As a result of an outstanding South Eastern Zone performance in both the track and field Casey Lototau and Nina Wilson, our two Year 7 athletic superstars, represented Sancta Maria College at the Auckland Inter-Zone athletics championships on Thursday 30 November.

The weather was immaculate for the first half of the day, then rain delayed the last two hours with some events being cancelled. However, this did not stop Nina and Casey from producing quality results. Casey performed exceptionally well, finishing 3rd overall in the Year 7 girls 200m, and in the 100m sprint, which had everyone on the edge of their seats, she came in a very close 2nd by just 0.4 seconds after a photo finish.

Nina also competed in the 200m and qualified for the final. However, Nina’s strength is in the throwing events. She bagged an impressive 2nd place in the Year 7 discus. Unfortunately, due to the weather, the shot put was cancelled, and judging from Ninas 1st place result in the SEZ competition she would have excelled in that event also.

Overall it was a very successful day for both Nina and Casey. Great effort girls. We look forward to next year’s athletics.
