Alex Dougherty, Mikayla Killip and I had the privilege of going to this year’s ‘Green Jam’. It was a wonderful experience for us where we learnt about environmental issues and how we can lead by example to become a part of the change. The theatre was crowded with students from schools around Auckland.

Child sex slavery is a serious problem in some countries and although we cannot do much, we can contribute our little bit by supporting organisations that are a voice for these kids. Destiny Rescue is one such organisations working undercover towards freeing these young girls and boys from sex slavery.

Every year we lend out over 50 bags of books to students to keep them happy over the holidays. Some students like to choose their own books and some opt for a “mystery selection” of books carefully chosen for them by the librarians.

During Week 8 of Term 3, a group from the sports committee hosted the Year 10 sports competition. Sports committee members went around the Year 10 homerooms throughout the week in order to promote the event. Hannah, Roisin, Shawna, Tahlisa, Tanya and Mia (members of sports committee), organised dodgeball on Thursday and Friday lunchtime in the gym for all Year 10 students who showed up and were willing to play. All those that came to the gym were supporting their house and trying to win extra house points.

This year we had four Year 7 students sit ICAS Spelling. Lucas Cooper achieved Distinction.
There were 13 Year 8 students sitting the ICAS Spelling. The top achiever, James Karl received High Distinction with a score of 100%.

The humble sausage sizzle. There’s nothing quite as good as the kiwi classic and today, in the C Block Courtyard, the 1st XV Rugby team were selling barbeque sausages for $2.
They are fundraising for their end of season trip where they will get the chance to celebrate the Year 13 boys contribution to Sancta Maria College and the rugby team over the years.
