Twenty four of our classical players took part in the Play In South session with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau. Our players – ranging from Years 7 to 13 and filling roles in all four sections of the orchestra (strings, percussion, woodwind and brass) – linked with the APO’s players and students from Pukekohe High School and Takapuna Intermediate to form an orchestra of well over 100 players.

Antonie Smal, Allan Ah Kau and Astyn Bidois are ready to compete at the inter zone athletics on Thursday having qualified at last week‘s zone finals. They are part of an eleven strong contingent from Sancta Maria College participating at the event.

This Tuesday lunchtime, the library was filled with busy students looking for the hidden clues in our Christmas themed Library Scavenger Hunt. Searching among the shelves of the school library, students worked in pairs or by themselves to find hidden clues, solve the puzzle and get the correct answer. It was a great way to start the Christmas season!

The Year 7s and 8s representing Sancta Maria College in the South Eastern Zone Athletics on Tuesday has a busy day. The events included; Relay, Long Jump, High Jump and Discus.

On November 14, the Year 10s were off timetable and participating in a careers day. This day was filled with 5 different stations, all helping the young adults consider possible career options for their future.

Since Vaelei Young was introduced to the sport of hockey it has become one of her passions. Being put into a junior team for the Howick Pakuranga Hockey Club when in Year 3, Vaelei started developing her performance, skills and sportsmanship. Now as a Year 9 student, she has come very far and ‘looks forward to the coming season, next year’.

Superb batting from Jayden Corriera with 51 not out from 40 balls and Johnathan Aviet with 50 not out from 66 balls set us up for a massive total of 184 for 1. Hayden Waters helped the cause at the end of the innings with 19 quick runs.

In the final week of Junior Volleyball we came away with some good results leading up to Auckland Regional Champs this coming Thursday and Friday.

Six of our students (Christina Bechara, Leilani Davies, Kaitlin Eustaquio, Isabella Ibbetson, Cayleigh-Ann Ngapaku and Layla Ngapaku) have been selected to take part in the half time show during this Saturday’s FIBA Women’s Basketball Olympic Qualifying Series between the NZ Tall Ferns, China, Korea and the Philippines at the Trusts Stadium, Henderson.
